The Virgin River television series is based on the novel series of the same title, written by Robyn Carr. The first season was released in December 2019 while the second season was released a year later in November 2020. In December of the following year, season threewas released. The fourth season was set to be released in December 2021, but due to the unexpected death of Alexandra Breckenridge’s sister, the show’s schedule had to be modified by a week.
The main story of the series revolves around the trials and tribulations of nurse Melinda Monroe, who relocates to a small town named Virgin River. The pilot episode’s narrative begins with Melinda establishing herself in the town, determined to leave her old life behind in California at any cost. Recap of Previous Seasons
The previous season was full of a lot of drama, heartbreak, and some major plot twists that have left the audience heartbroken and still reeling. It started with Mel, who finally mustered the courage to tell Jack about her past and her inability to conceive. Their happiness is short-lived with Charmaine revealing that she is pregnant with Jack’s twins and she wants to keep the child and co-parent with Jack, Mel tries to push Jack away for a project in Los Angeles and Jack slowly pushes Mel away accepting his responsibility to be a father to his children-to-be. Preacher, after getting accidentally shot by Jamie, falls into a coma.
Doc, who’s also fallen for Muriel, tries proposing marriage to her but it ends on an anti-climax with both of them getting into a heated argument and Doc’s heart attack due to over-excitement and stress. The most heartbreaking part of the season was Hope and Doc’s romantic trip gone south and Doc’s accident. Paige, after being pursued by the drug lords for money, tries to leave town but gets captured on the way. Christopher becomes close to staying with Jack for a weekend but gets abducted by an unknown stranger at the end of the show. The last episode ends with a cliffhanger of who the kidnapper might be and what Jack might do to save his son.
Anticipation for Season 6
With Virgin River Season 6 still on the horizon, unfortunately, there have been no valid confirmations regarding its release. After Virgin River Season 5 was ordered and the filming began, the producers and writers of the series said that Virgin River is important to Netflix and they are looking forward to renewing the series for Season 6 as well. There have been ongoing rumours about the series being renewed for Season 6. However, there has been no official confirmation made by the creators regarding the revival of the show for Season 6. However, Virgin River has shattered many records and is a definite fan-favourite show, this has made the fans very hopeful and anxious about the potential of Virgin River Season 6 happening. The Virgin River fan base is highly anticipating the series’ renewal, but as of now, there’s no official word on a potential season 6. The fans sure seem hopeful, but as for now, nothing is set in stone.
Main Storylines in Season 6
Two important storylines come from the character of Hope Valley and the character of Charmaine. Showrunner Sue Tenney also explained, “Mel and Jack will be getting help from Doc and Preacher with their baby. However, big trouble is on the way that will disrupt all of their lives.” Preacher also finds someone new and quite possibly gets a pregnancy storyline. Some characters are feared to lose their lives at various points and times in the season as the creator remains tight-lipped about the ‘potential surprises and twists’ that he has planned.
New Additions to the Cast
Several new characters are joining the cast for season 6. In terms of high-profile names, former Bachelorette star Matt James is among the stars featuring in season 6, however little is known about the character he will play at present. As well as James, other new arrivals for season 6 include The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder, showing that Netflix is continuing to put money into the show to generate the same popularity that the first two seasons of the show did. As with James we currently do not have any detail regarding Somerhalder’s character and therefore we cannot speculate on the direction that the show will go in for season 6.
