The history behind Mother’s Day is as follows, Anna Jarvis from West Virginia in 1905 lost her mother when she was quite young. Her mother had dedicated her life to serving her community and she wanted to honor this and her mother’s legacy. In 1908 Anna Jarvis organised the first official service for Mother’s Day at her local church where she invited their friends and family to celebrate the spectacle of motherhood. Her idea resonated deeply with everyone and soon the celebrations spread all across the United States of America. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson declared that the second Sunday of May would be a national holiday for all mothers. From here the idea spread to the whole world and while every country had its own traditions for honoring mothers the idea became widely accepted and implemented due to the larger influence of the country on other worlds due to various factors. The day celebrations have gone through many changes throughout the years and have formed many opinions on the day itself and what it means.
