The music world has gained popularity with a very unlikely star as Zach Bryan, a country music singer and songwriter, arrived but by doing it his own way. Since his music began garnering him million album sales and 10 million singles sold by the end of 2019, the Oklahoma native has been hugely successful and it has been principally due to his own viral success.

Some describe him as someone who alleviates stereotypical lyrics, turns the attention to his private life experiences, and sings with conviction and an honest tone. We are now, closer to the task.

Humble roots

Zachary Lane Bryan was born in Okinawa, Japan, on April 2, 1996, while his Navy father was stationed there. The guitarist and singer grew up in Oologah, Oklahoma, a small town of approximately 1,200 people. It is located around 30 miles north of Tulsa.

Bryan was an athlete in wrestling for school and a member of student government throughout high school, and at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Navy, striking the first chords of his future songwriting. Bryan served as a member of the active duty forces of the United States Navy until the age of 25, when, by the dint of his duties, he was honorably discharged.

He rose to the level of Aviation Ordnanceman Second Class. He was stationed in Washington and Florida, and he also toured Bahrain and Djibouti. During his time in the army, the future country singer initially worked on his stuff for fun while expanding his repertoire and songwriting skills.

Viral Fame

Bryan’s first album, DeAnn, is named after his late mother. It was released on August 19, 2019, and finally reached double platinum sales. He had been uploading iPhone footage of his performances to YouTube since 2015, and “Heading South” eventually became a viral success. He penned the song beside his Navy barracks, and it appeared on his debut. It had over 30 million Spotify plays, and its official single sold 2 million copies.

AllMusic noted of his first album, “Zach Bryan’s debut doesn’t exactly feel like a demo, but it isn’t far from that realm, either. DeAnn, primarily performed by Bryan accompanied by an acoustic guitar, is plain and intimate, a record that asks to be listened to closely or without a lick of focus.”

Bryan reportedly wrote DeAnn in two months and recorded it in a Florida Airbnb before performing his first show in Medford, Oregon, in October of that year. Elisabeth, his follow-up album, was released in May 2020. It was recorded in a barn behind his Washington house, and the song “Oklahoma City” peaked at number 34 on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.

By April 2021, Bryan had performed at Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium and Grand Ole Opry and was on his way to signing with Warner Records. In October of that year, he was honorably discharged from the Navy in preparation for his first national tour, known as the “Ain’t for Tamin’ Tour.”

Combined with his independent release Sunshine Stone, Bryan’s major label debut American Heartbreak will be released on May 20, 2022, and is set to debut at number five on the Australian albums record. It had 34 songs, a larger variety of instrumentation, guest musicians, and a two-hour runtime. The album generated half a dozen singles, the fifth of which, “Something in the Orange,” peaked at No.

Bryan released the live album All My Homies Hate Ticketmaster (Live from Red Rocks) on Christmas Day, 2022, and received the Academy of Country Music’s New Male Artist of the Year award in May 2023. On August 25, he released his self-titled fourth album, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, while I Remember Everything, featuring Kacey Musgraves, also reached the top singles chart.

Regarding his fourth album, Pitchfork asked, “Why does Zach Bryan feel like a breath of fresh air?”
