IPL 2016

On This Day in 2016: Sunrisers Hyderabad lifted their maiden IPL trophy | Cricket News - The Indian Express

This was not just Kohli’s greatest IPL score to date, but also the fourth of his four IPL hundreds in the 2016 season. With a knock of 113 off 50 balls RCB defeated KXIP by an innings using the Duckworth Lewis system, and the victory also kept them in the running for the playoffs. The century was noteworthy since it was achieved while Kohli was hurt. The batter needed nine stitches after being struck in the hand during a May 16 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

When the injury was still fresh Kohli delivered one of the best centuries in the IPL just two days later. Kohli became the only batter to hit over 800 runs in a single edition with the knock.

Kohli hit eight sixes and twelve fours during the 113-run romp. Playing at their home stadium, RCB amassed 211/3 in 90 balls thanks to this knock. The Punjab team responded by finishing at 120/9. For the first time that season, RCB advanced to the finals but was defeated by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Match against Gujarat Lions in 2016

One of the most notable partnerships between Ab de Villiers and Virat Kohli since they joined the RCB in 2011 occurred in 2016. In the 44th game of the season, RCB was hosting the Gujarat Lions, who have since folded.

The hosts lost Chris Gayle for just 6 runs off 13 balls as they were put to bat first. However, what followed was a record-breaking partnership between de Villiers and Kohli. After reaching his half-century in 26 balls the South African batsman amassed a 52-ball 129 that featured 10 fours and 12 sixes.

This was the first time that two batsmen had ever scored hundreds of runs in the same innings in the IPL. The strongest partnership in the competition is still that of Kohli and AB.

Against the 2016 IPL Rising Pune Supergiants

It was the 35th IPL 2016 match to be held in Bangalore. The Supergiants amassed 191 runs after winning the toss and elected to bowl first with Ajinkya Rahane leading the way with a 48-ball 74. The only other disciplined bowler for the RCB that day was Shane Watson, who finished his four-over spell with an economy of 6.00 and three wickets.

Against  Bengaluru Knight Riders in 2019 IPL

At the storied Eden Gardens cricket stadium in Kolkata, Kohli scored his fifth and most recent century in the 2019 Indian Premier League versus KKR.

When RCB elected to bat first, Kohli and Parthiv Patel started off slowly, and by the fourth over, the score was 18-1. Akshdeep Nath, batting at number two, was unable to accomplish much either, managing a 13 off 15 balls. The ninth over saw the introduction of Moeen Ali, who, like Kohli, was unstoppable. The England batsman produced a massive 66 off just 28 balls at a strike rate of 235.71 while the captain of the RCB amassed a 100 off 58 balls with nine fours and four sixes.

In the IPL 2023 against Sunrisers Hyderabad

In the 2023 Indian Premier League Virat Kohli became the eighth player to reach the century mark, his sixth in the league’s history. He demonstrated his batting prowess against SRH, where he scored his century. Kohli blasted his way to a century in only 63 deliveries as he pursued a target of 187. He finished the innings with 12 fours and four sixes and a dominant strike rate of 158.73. Kohli scored the target in 19.2 overs  leading his team to victory with a brilliant performance.

IPL 2023 against Gujarat Titans

Kohli scored his seventh century in the IPL 2023 match against the Gujarat Titans. As RCB’s opening batsman, Kohli demonstrated his versatility by scoring an undefeated 101 off just 61 deliveries, leading his side to a formidable total of 197 for 5.

Gujarat won despite Kohli’s outstanding performance thanks to Shubman Gill’s undefeated century. For Kohli this match was especially important because it cemented his place in IPL history by overtaking Chris Gayle’s record as the batsman with the most hundreds in the competition.

With 80 centuries in international cricket, the run machine will be looking to add a lot more runs in the IPL 2024 and lead RCB to their first IPL championship.
