All of the IPL fans have seen MS Dhoni’s brilliance on multiple occasions. Many success stories about him may be heard or read after his 15-year tournament trip. With his strongest attributes—calm and intelligence Dhoni has guided the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to four titles as the captain of the Indian Premier League. With five league titles under their belt, Mumbai Indians are the side with the greatest success in league history, ahead of CSK at the moment.

In the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) season in 2008, MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) over the Rajasthan Royals (RR) captained by Shane Warne to the championship game.

But in the decisive match, Royals looked stronger and defeated Dhoni and company by three wickets to finish runners-up. The seasoned batsman excelled in the bat as well, amassing 414 runs at a strike rate of 133.54 in 16 games.

In the redesigned tournament, Dhoni’s Super Kings had a difficult time in the first round, winning just one of the first five games. But thanks to his outstanding leadership, CSK was able to advance to the knockout round.

A self-assured Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team upset CSK by six wickets in the pivotal semi-final match, thwarting Dhoni’s attempt to hoist the title.

First Trophy

CSK eventually won their first trophy in 2010 after losing to Mumbai Indians (MI) by 22 runs in the championship match following a few unsuccessful attempts to capture their first title. Playing in the league round earlier, Dhoni proved his mettle at the bat in a game that had to be won at Dharamsala against the Punjab Kings (PBKS). Riding high on his 54-run innings off of 29 deliveries, CSK reached the 193-run mark with four wickets remaining.

With nine league wins in 2011, the veteran assisted his team in making it to the knockout stage. Super Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the playoffs and championship game to win their second championship under the charismatic captain. In 16 tournament games, the CSK captain amassed 392 runs at an impressive strike rate of 158.70 with his bat.

CSK emerged as a formidable opponent in 2012 after experiencing remarkable success in 2010 and 2011. CSK advanced to the championship game under Dhoni’s leadership, however they were defeated by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Aside from leading by example, the veteran performed admirably at bat, amassing 358 runs at a strike rate of 128.77 in 19 games.

2011 Victory

Super Kings played excellent cricket under MS Dhoni following their incredible 2011 victory. They made it to the IPL knockout stages in every edition until 2015, but they were unable to win another championship.

A two-year suspension was imposed on CSK that same year due to the spot-fixing and betting scandal that rocked the cricket community in 2013. The stunning wicketkeeper batsman joined the Rising Pune Supergiant (RPSG), a new squad in the cricket carnival, in place of CSK. While representing his new team, Dhoni appeared unfit, both as a batsman and as captain.

He was unable to give it his all at the bat, but he still managed to score 284 runs in 14 games. Dhoni gave up his captaincy with RPSG in 2017 and scored 290 runs in 16 games.

2018 and more years

In 2018, Dhoni wore a CSK shirt once more following his service with RPSG. After his team defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by a comfortable margin of eight wickets, he once more claimed the coveted title.

Regarding the senior employee of CSK, his batting performance was impressive as he amassed 455 runs at a strike rate of 150.66 in 16 games. After playing aggressive cricket once more in 2019, his team lost to MI, their bitter rivals, by one run in the championship game.

But for the first time in the league’s history, Captain Cool was unable to advance the Super Kings to the knockout stage in 2020. Dhoni struggled at the bat in 2021, scoring 114 runs in 16 games, but he still managed to win another trophy for the Super Kings with his captancy.

While Dhoni’s batting line has declined from the first few IPL seasons, his supporters anticipate that he will cap off his IPL career in spectacular fashion this coming season. A few days prior to the competition in 2022, he gave his compatriot Ravindra Jadeja the captaincy.

Dhoni had to recover the captaincy due to the all-rounder’s appalling performance in that role. Under his direction, the group defeated the Gujarat Titans in an exciting match, and Ravindra Jadeja’s spectacular finale sealed their fifth championship.

The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the first IPL game of 2022 on March 26 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. On May 29, the IPL’s last game is scheduled to take place.

Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Lucknow SuperGiants will be in Group A of the 2022 Indian Premier League alongside the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians team.

The defending champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans, on the other side, make up Group B.

Compared to RR in 2019

When CSK and the Rajasthan Royals played at Chepauk, CSK was told to bat first. Before the powerplay ended, MS had unexpectedly entered at number four after the hosts had been reduced to 22/2.

With four fours and as many sixes in his unbeaten 75 in 46 balls, Dhoni had spearheaded the attack. The Chennai Super Kings had struck the Rajasthan bowlers for sixty runs in the final eighteen balls of the innings, with Dhoni scoring the majority of those runs. After scoring 175 runs, the home team won the game by eight runs. Player of the Match went to Dhoni, and no questions were raised.

Against the RCB in 2019

The Chennai Super Kings were at 83/5 after the hosts, Royal Challengers Bangalore, set a target of 162. MSD now enters the game and attacks the Bangalore bowlers with aggression. His incredible 48-ball-84 was his highest-ever individual score in the Indian Premier League; in the last over, he scored an incredible 24 runs off of just five deliveries. In a match where he gave it his all but was ultimately defeated, Dhoni remained unblemished despite the visitors’ narrow miss of the objective by just 1 run.
