Online discrimination can have lasting effects on their mental health and create feelings of anger, shame, and hopelessness. Therefore, educating teenagers about online discrimination, how to report it, and how to support those affected is essential.

Comparing Oneself To Others:

Social media encourages individuals to present idealized versions of themselves, which can cause teenagers to compare themselves negatively to others. Additionally, social media platforms with filters and photo editing tools make it harder for teenagers to distinguish what is real from what is fake, leading to unrealistic expectations and poor self-image. 

Teenagers who compare themselves to others on social media are more likely to develop anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. As a result, parents and caregivers must talk to their teens about the dangers of comparison and remind them that not everything they see on social media is real.

In addition, parents can encourage their teens to focus on their strengths and accomplishments instead of comparing themselves to others. They can promote positive body image by discussing media literacy and healthy self-care habits.
