The bustling streets of Bengaluru faced a saddening event that shook the city and its people—the Rameswaram blast—an ordinary day turned into a nightmare. Commissioner of Bengaluru Police B Dayananda announced on Saturday that four arrests had been made concerning the event and that the Central Crime Branch has taken over the investigation into the explosion at the Rameshwaram cafe that left ten persons injured. He wrote on ‘X’ that the Central Crime Branch (CCB) has taken up the case’s investigation. Every injured person is getting better.

Series of events:

On Friday, the famous restaurant suffered a bomb blast. In total, 10 people were injured in this. It has been determined that the explosion was not caused by a gas leak, thus authorities have launched a thorough inquiry that considers multiple perspectives. The authorities are leaning towards the theory that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) that was in a bag at the restaurant and the doubt of it being a gas leak was nullified.

Four detained:

Four people have been held for interrogation about yesterday’s low-intensity bomb incident according to the authority and the sources available. They were collected from Bengaluru, Hubballi, and Dharwad. According to Dayananda, the issue is still being investigated. The required unit which is the local NIA unit arrived at the location on time and reported everything to both the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

As mentioned above an “improvised explosive” device may have been involved in the explosion at the Cafe, and the same was mentioned by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He gave assurance to people and asked them to stay calm. In addition to requesting collaboration and warning against politicizing the issue, Siddaramaiah promised tough punishment against anyone involved. Later that day, CM paid the victims a visit to the hospital. When the explosion occurred on Friday at around 1:00 pm, about ten individuals were there. One of them, a woman, needed plastic surgery as treatment for her burn injuries.

What does the evidence say?

The CCTV footage taken from the neighborhood shows a man carrying a suitcase inside the cafe at the time of the explosion. The individual had covered part of his face, but sources close to the police claimed that efforts were on to identify him. The chief minister advised police officers to step up their patrols in congested areas and to take advantage of technology. In the meantime, Bengaluru police have not only registered this case under UAPA but under the Explosive Substances Act as well. The materials used in improvised explosive devices of the Rameshwaram blast were similar to the explosions that were reported in Shivamogga and Mangaluru in 2022 according to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar so there are chances that these two blasts are linked.
