Mistplay 2023: North American Mobile Gaming Trends Uncovered | GAM3S.GG

Headquartered in Montreal, Canada, Mistplay was founded in 2015 by Charles Machalani and Eugene Joannides.  At least for Machalani, this is not his first venture. He had already started working on projects while studying computer science  at McGill University.  Our first project was the online shopping application Ergovu, which was never implemented. He later founded Tabtu, an HTML5  collaborative presentation platform for classrooms, in 2011. Tabtu finally arrived from Terawe in August 2013. This company eventually became Mistplay, which was announced in October 2015. Interestingly, the app was initially aimed at iOS developers, but later handed over to Android gamers. 

The Covid-19 pandemic has enabled Mistplay to reach millions of new users as people look for entertainment and sometimes even take a chance. The rapid growth continues on its own as Google will continue to offer the application in the App Store ecosystem. By the end of 2019 and 2021, Mistplay had become one of the top 3 companies in Canada, with ten million players accessing the app every month. Mistplay’s growing popularity has led New York City-based private equity firm GrowthCurve Capital to invest in acquiring a majority stake in the business. Thanks to the acquisition and increase of capital, Mistplay has managed to attract some heavyweights to its leadership team. In June 2022, the company announced the hiring of seven new senior executives to serve in product, legal, information, development and other areas. Today, Mistplay has over 150 employees and its app has been installed over 21 million times.

  • Gathers feedback for game developers

This is where it all starts. As mentioned above, Mistplay was created as a platform  for game developers to collect feedback from players on their new games. These games are developed for players to try and give their opinions. Developers will take into account players’ suggestions and interests to improve their games. Mistplay continues to strengthen its games by supporting language demonstration as it evolves from an experimental gaming platform to a full-fledged operation for mobile users. users. When you complete the game or reach the goal, it will ask you to send a short message about the game you just played. If you don’t comment, you won’t get more points, so almost all users comment after playing every game. 

  • Offers the Game You Love

Over the years, Mistplay has managed to update and improve its platform by collecting valuable feedback from its users. The company is working to hone in on  the right type of games for users based on demographics, location, and behaviour. Mistplay can identify your target audience and recommend games that will make them happy and satisfied, from online Bingo apps like Bingo Cash or Blackout Bingo to adventure games, sports games and more.

The most important feature of Mistplay is the many points you can earn and the rewards attached to them when you start playing. You can earn points in three ways when you play Mistplay games:

Gaming Experience Points (GXP)– You receive GXP points based on the amount of time you play a particular game. Therefore, the longer  you play the game, the more GXP you will have and the more units (in-app loyalty points) you will earn. 

Player Experience Points (PXP)- PXP allows you to earn points as you progress through the game. The better you get at the game, the higher your level  and the more rewards you get, such as more money and player features. You will receive units, which are Mistplay’s currency. You can then redeem these units as gift cards to Google Play, Amazon, Facebook, PlayStation, Xbox and other brands or stores, or as PayPal cash.

  • Loyalty Rewards Program

Let’s face it, dealing with the volume of online games  to retain and reach users  is a huge challenge. Mistplay is aware of this fact and therefore has created a loyalty program for  users who make a lot of in-app purchases in the game. Customers with higher budgets can benefit more from loyalty points and events. Mistplay loyalty program has four different levels or statuses such as Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. You can complete each scenario by earning Loyalty Gems while playing games and shopping. 

  • Create Collaborations 

In 2019, Mistplay opened one of its most successful projects. Named a “Company to Watch” by Deloitte and ranked as the 36th fastest growing startup in Canada by Canadian Business and Maclean’s. This rapid growth can be attributed to  the company making its platform accessible to  a wide range of  users. This is done by creating a discussion. On Mistplay, you can  chat with your friends and make new friends through the game.

  • Mistplay Referral Program

You can earn more points or units by referring new users to Mistplay. When you invite your friends to join and play the game, you will receive 100 points (worth about $0.33 when used as a gift card) for each referral that occurs in certain situations.

  • Supports Multiple Ways to Win

In addition to the previously mentioned methods, there are also multiple ways to earn  points in Mistplay. Other options include following them on Facebook, Twitter and other social media and subscribing to their newsletters. Another fun way to earn points is to find and use what they call “Smoke Codes”. These are secret codes hidden in the Mistplay app, social media platforms and newsletter. These can be converted into points and units to enhance your gaming experience by customising your avatar, or you can redeem them as gift cards at your favourite stores. Some games also have additional missions that will give you points when you complete the mission. In other cases, Mistplay has competitions where you can win bonus points, e-gifts and other prizes.
