Overseas holidays may not be for everyone so a holiday with a long road trip may be an option. Whether you want to go to another part of your state or take a long cross-state road trip, you’ll need to understand a few important things before you get started.

Unfortunately, long-distance driving is also not for everyone so ask yourself first, are you really ready to drive more than six hours for example? Don’t you have a tendency to get sleepy in the middle of a highway ride? Does your budget have enough for a long trip with all the hassle?

Without further ado, here are the important points to pay attention to before you start your overlanding adventure!

Know your goals well

Many novice road travelers do not properly plan and understand the purpose of their trip and instead of studying properly, they only rely on YouTube content that only provides “the good stuff.” You must understand that there is always a possibility that you can get lost, and there is also always a possibility that the journey to your destination will have obstacles. Understanding the destination and traveling there is very important. Make sure you have a GPS tracker for maximum security. When you are no longer anxious about your route, your travel comfort will automatically increase.

Your car must be in top condition

It would be very unpleasant if, in the middle of a journey of hundreds of miles, your car breaks down in a remote place. You don’t want that especially if you have your kids with you. Ensuring that your car is in 100 percent condition is the first step in preventing breakdowns and make sure you also bring emergency technical equipment for your car, for example, a car jack, portable tire pump, and so on. Anyway, make sure your tire tread is above the legal minimum tread depth. Many accidents occur due to the use of tires that no longer meet the requirements.

Enough rest

Microsleep is one of the causes of accidents, so if you want to go out the next day, make sure you have slept at least 8 hours today. This is to ensure you won’t get sleepy on the trip. Once again fatigue is one of the biggest factors in accidents. Have you rested? Don’t try to drink alcohol before and in the middle of the trip! You will not want accidents and traffic police raids. Don’t drive for more than four hours. Every four hours you should stop and rest. If it’s measured by distance, make sure you drive 150 miles before taking a break. Don’t speed up because travel comfort cannot be achieved in a hurry.

Don’t eat too much and stay hydrated

Many people eat too much before driving and that is wrong because a full stomach tends to cause unbearable sleepiness. Eat moderately and stop before you are completely full. It will give you energy without feeling sleepy. It is also important to stay hydrated because it can reduce your excess appetite while traveling.

If possible, take turns driving

If possible, you don’t need to be a sole driver. Divide the tasks with your wife or husband so that you can keep both of you in shape on long journeys of hundreds or even thousands of miles. By sharing driving duties, one of you can be the navigator so that the journey can be more comfortable and directed.

By understanding and doing what is written above, you can minimize the risks on long trips as much as possible. Do you have other ideas?
