As we all know, Ghost King is currently the most tough enemy in Dark and Darker. If you go through the red portal to Inferno or B3, you will find a boss arena in the center of the map where Lich or Ghost King will spawn.
Fighting Ghost King may seem difficult at first, but most of the damage is avoidable once you understand the mechanics. In this Ghost King Boss guide, we show you all the attacks to watch out for, strategies and how to defeat it!
Prepare
To ensure our safety, you can choose classes such as Barbarian, Ranger, and Cleric. As a Ranger, I run two bows so I can swap without reloading my quiver. And we can let Cleric run Cleanse. Because it removes curse debuffs that can be deadly.
Don’t forget to buy Dark and Darker Gold to get a large amount of Shields and Healing Potions in advance. This way you can spam them in combat and help your Cleric save their healing. Potion of Protection is also very important, try to keep one bottle.
Also, make sure to bring Campfire to replenish Cleric’s spells, and try to use it before entering the red portal or when loading into B3 to save time.
Once you enter B3, you need to get to the boss room as quickly as possible without wasting time. Luckily, Ghost King’s location is hard to miss, as it’s in the center of the map. You just need to find and use the red downward portal on Crypt on the standard dungeon map. After that, this Ghost King is waiting for you there.
Before entering the boss’ room, have your Cleric cast a buff or two and everyone will pop their Potion of Protection. I recommend throwing away any Dark and Darker items you won’t use, so you don’t accidentally pull out the wrong potion in the middle of a fight.
Boss Mechanics
Most of the time, the boss will perform a teleportation attack when the first person enters the room. The boss will target a player, and the location where Ghost King is about to teleport will blink a light. If you spot it targeting you, you can easily avoid this attack entirely by running away.
This is an AOE attack that also attacks any nearby teammates. Therefore, it is important not to crowd up and spread out as much as possible to kill the mobs to collect Dark and Darker Gold.
Also, whenever Ghost King does this attack, he will leave a blue circle because you don’t want to stand on. If you don’t focus on your enemies, the boss arena will quickly fill up with these blue circles, covering nearly the entire floor space.
I suggest you try to get as far away from the edge as possible, so he creates circles on the outside. This gives you more of a safe fighting space when the fight is going on.
But what exactly does the blue circle do? While you’re standing in the circle, every time you’re hit by the boss, it’ll apply a bunch of curses debuffs. You can see these debuffs above your character icon in the lower left corner.
Even though you’ll only get a few stacks of curse when hit by the boss, standing in the circle for even a few seconds can quickly accumulate over 20 stacks. The more curse layers you have, the more damage Ghost King will do to you.
But luckily, Cleric can purify it. If you don’t get hit or step on the blue circle, it will disappear after a few seconds.
Every once in a while, Ghost King will unleash an inevitable Scream attack, causing the entire team to lose a small amount of health. This Scream will deal higher damage depending on how many stacks of Curse you have. Regardless of level, a curse above 20 levels is guaranteed to result in a critical hit. You must not stand inside the blue circle, otherwise you will probably die.
Sometimes he will launch an Orbs attack. Ghost King will target a player and fire a row of 5 Orbs in their direction. This hit isn’t too hard and can be easily avoided if you keep moving. But that’s another reason you’ll be separated from your teammates in this fight.
This mechanic is very easy to avoid if you know it’s coming. But if you don’t pay attention, it can definitely lead to the death of you and your partner.
Fight Mechanics
When Ghost King forms this bubble around him that looks similar to this Potion of Protection buff, he will target a player and start chasing them. No matter which player is targeted, you need to press X to sheath your weapon and escape from the boss.
If the boss gets too close and grabs the player, he will bind you in place and drain your health. If you start a spamming cure bind immediately, you can actually survive the crisis. However, if you are bound at the top of the blue circle, you will accumulate too many curse stacks. When he follows the bind with a Scream attack, you will die instantly.
Ghost King’s ultimate attack is the most difficult and may determine the success or failure of your team’s battle. Ghost King is about to unleash his deadliest jumping attack when he teleports into the air in the center of the room. This attack does a lot of damage and can only be avoided by jumping up when he slams the ground.
Before he falls, you need to keep an eye out for the blue sparks appearing above his head. If you jump up the moment these sparks appear, you can completely dodge the attack.
Ghost King will also spawn 3 Death Skulls at the end of the attack, so be aware of this! Cleric in your team can use Holy Purification to eliminate these monsters.
The jump attack is the hardest part of Ghost King fight, but once you get the timing down, this boss really isn’t that bad. Concentrate, prepare a lot of Potions of Protection, and pump out as much DPS as possible, and you and your party will be enjoying Inferno’s boss loot in no time!
Loot
There are a bunch of boxes around the boss’ room, which will contain some high-level loot, as well as a bunch of Dark and Darker Gold for sale. You can loot endlessly as long as the area allows. When looting these gold piles, make sure you have enough space in your inventory. If you don’t have enough space to place the items you receive, nothing will fall.
We haven’t tried High Roller Ghost King yet, but the mechanics are the same. It mostly comes down to whether we have good enough gear. But that should cover everything there is to know about Ghost King combat, hopefully this will be helpful to other dungeon divers!
