Introduction to the UPSC 2022 Exam 

Also called officially as the Civil Services Exam, the UPSC exam is overseen by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) once every year. Widely considered to be one of the most coveted as well as challenging exams held across India, the ones clearing this exam get into the various esteemed civil services of the nation and become officers in highly reputed departments such as the IAS (Indian Administrative Service), IFS (Indian Foreign Service), Indian Police Service (IPS), among many others. Due to its difficulty level, an aspirant must be well-versed with all the essential requirements, information, and strategies to clear the UPSC exam with flying colours. 

UPSC Exam 2022 Structure 

The UPSC 2022 Exam is bifurcated below into three major parts:- 

  1. Prelims  
  2. Mains 
  3. UPSC Personality Test

Prelims

  • Further divided into two papers i.e. General Studies and General Studies (CSAT), candidates must appear for both of them to be eligible for the Mains
  • Questions asked in the Prelims are of Multiple Choice in nature with negative marking
  • The CSAT paper is qualifying in nature wherein one must score at least 33% marks to qualify for the Mains
  • The duration of each of these two papers is of two hours and 200 marks each. While paper one consists of 100 questions, paper two has 80 questions 

Mains

  • It is descriptive in nature, consisting of nine papers such as Compulsory Indian Language and English (which are qualifying in nature), while the others include Essay, General Studies, etc. 
  • The duration of each of these nine papers is three hours; the total marks comprising of 1750 

Personality Test

  • Aspirants clearing the Mains are eligible to appear for the final round, wherein they will be evaluated on various topics such as current affairs, hobbies, hypothetical scenarios, etc. 
  • This interview is conducted only in the UPSC Bhavan located in New Delhi 

UPSC Exam 2022 Fees & Syllabus

Fees: While male candidates from the general category need to pay a fee of Rs. 100, female candidates and those belonging to the different categories such as SC, ST, etc. are exempted from the fee payment. 

Syllabus: Across the different papers and personality test in the UPSC Exam, one can expect questions based on a variety of topics such as the following:-

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Decision Making 
  • Current Affairs 
  • History
  • Indian Polity and Governance 
  • General Science 
  • Basic numeracy/mathematics 
  • Communication skills

UPSC 2022 Eligibility Criteria

For the candidates belonging to general category, the age limit of appearing for the UPSC Exam is 21 – 32 years as of August 1, 2022. It means that an aspirant must be before August 1, 2001 and after August 2, 1990. One must at least have completed his/her graduation as well as be an Indian citizen. He/she must also haven’t appeared for the exam on more than six occasions. There are age relaxations for those belonging to the other categories such as SC/ST, who can appear for the UPSC exam even at the age of 37 years. 

UPSC Exam 2022 Important Dates

The notification for UPSC Exam 2022 was released on February 2, 2022. While the admit cards for Prelims were disclosed to the candidates on May 10, 2022, the same for Mains were released on August 30, 2022. The prelims were conducted on June 5, 2022 while the Mains happened from September 16, 2022. The Prelims results were declared on June 22, 2022. Candidates must visit the official website of UPSC https://www.upsc.gov.in/ for all the information pertaining to the UPSC Exam 2022. How to download the UPSC Admit Card 2022? 

To download the UPSC Admit Card 2022 follow the following steps:

Step 1: Candidates need to visit the UPSC official website

Step 2: On the right side of the home page, click on the tab “Admit Cards” or click on “e-Admit Cards for various examinations of UPSC”. 

Step 3: One will be redirected to a page listing the several UPSC exams for which the admit cards are available. 

Step 4: Select the “Civil Services (Prelims) exam 2022” option to download the hall ticket for UPSC 2022. 

Step 5: You will be prompted to provide your registration ID or roll number for the UPSC exam 2022 before being allowed to download the admit card. 

Step 6: The admit card will be shown as a PDF. Check all the details mentioned on it, then download and take a printout of it which needs to be carried for any UPSC Exam.    

In the event of any discrepancy in their admit cards, candidates must immediately highlight the same to the commission and get the necessary corrections done at the earliest.
