Facebook and Instagram resumes its services after outage

Yesterday Instagram and Facebook users were unable to load the apps, deliver messages, or even refresh their search feeds on both the social media platforms handled by Meta.

On the 5th of March 2024, the social media platforms under meta Instagram and Facebook faced a short outage and resumed their services after a few hours. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said on the X that a technical issue had caused people to have difficulty accessing their services.

 The issue had been resolved by the company as quickly as possible and he apologized to everyone who was impacted and faced any sort of inconvenience.

Yesterday the users of the social media apps were unable to load the apps, deliver messages, or even refresh their search feeds on both the social media platforms handled by Meta. Due to some reason, the accounts were logged out of their profiles and both the social media sites went down in India and many other parts of the world yesterday evening. 

With this inconvenience, the users complained about the login issues and soon after the Instagram and Facebook issues, some YouTube users also started facing similar issues. According to the details provided by the users, 

the disruptions had started at around eight-thirty in the evening on Tuesday the 5th of March 2024 with a ‘Login again. Session Expired, Couldn’t refresh feed’ messages which popped up while using the social media apps and had the users logged out. The outage tracking website Downdetector.com also revealed that Meta’s social media apps were down not just for a few users but for tens of thousands of users on Tuesday. According to the website, there were about 31,493 reports of an outage on Instagram at 9.23 in the evening while Facebook had 24,193 reports at 9.09 the same evening. However,

 the outage tracking website Downdetector.com had shown that overall more than 31,000 reports of outage on Facebook and more than 19,000 reports for Instagram were shown. 

According to Reuters, Meta’s status dashboard had shown that the programming interface application for Whatsapp Business had also faced issues as there were approximately 200 reports of outages for the Whatsapp Business app on Downdetector.com, the website that tracks outages by collecting status reports from multiple sources, including the account users. 

Reacting to the outage the Meta company responded with the statement that they are aware that people are facing trouble issues accessing their services and they are working on it as they released the statement. This was put out by Meta’s spokesperson Andy Stone on the X platform. 

Soon after the outage had ended on the Meta platforms there were reports from YouTube which is a popular streaming site had also resumed its services after a small outage. Yesterday a number of users had reported encountering errors while they attempted to load the homepage of the app. Users took to X and other portals to report.
