Calcutta HC judge Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay resigns

Calcutta High Court Judge Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay has declared that he is resigning from his post on the 4th of March 2024, this Tuesday. His rulings on the multiple education-related cases in the state stirred a lot of political debates. 

 

Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay sharing his intention of joining politics had said that only the political field can support the people who want to take steps for helpless people and give them a chance to act for them. Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay when talking to the media said that for the past two years, he had been dealing with some big corruption in the education sector especially, which has led him to declare that he will resign from the post of Justice of Calcutta High Court on Tuesday which is today, the 4th of March 2024. The High Court judge of Calcutta was due for retirement later this year anyway and had said that he would submit his resignation to the President of the country on Tuesday in the first hour itself. A copy of his resignation will also be sent to the Chief Justice of India as well as the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court. 

The High Court Judge said that he had been dealing with some matters especially in the education sector for the past years about corruption which had been discovered and unearthed. A large number of important people in the education sector from this government are now under trial. He has also claimed that a large number of employer scams are underway in the state of  West Bengal in the provident fund gratuity for which he has passed certain orders in the regard but has also failed to address the matter of labor and labor legislation. According to the Judge of the Calcutta High Court, he now needs to go to the larger people as a judge only deals with cases that come up before him in case a person files a case but in our country and state, there are a big number of helpless people.

Justice Abhijit Gangopdhyay is famous for his swift directives and has garnered appreciation during his service for his mandating of compliance within hours. Diverse segments of society appreciate him but especially the people aspiring for school jobs. He has issued multiple directives to the Central Bureau of Investigation [CBI] and the Enforcement Directorate [ED] to investigate the allegations of irregularities in the teaching recruitment process as well as the non-teaching staff in the West Bengal government schools. His remarks have also managed to stir some dissatisfaction among the leaders of the ruling party in the state of West Bengal. 

The High Court judge was on leave for the last week due to some personal reasons and had declared that his resignation would be effective from the moment he sent it to the President of India. He also will be answering journalists on Tuesday after his resignation.
