How the world has changed in such a short period since the arrival of the computers because we are talking about virtual reality headsets which have started taking place in the rooms. Big tech giant Apple has released its VR/AR Headset, Apple Vision Pro recently which caught every attention at the worldwide developer conference 2023 because of the features.

They have been lined up for the past six years and developing this headset to make the most powerful advanced personal and at the same time innovative device of Apple. It was launched in the USA first around 2 February this year when they had started taking orders.

Let’s try to understand in detail about Apple Vision Pro and its features with price so that you can ultimately decide whether to buy or just skip it.

Apple Vision Pro Design:

Apple's new AR headset 'Vision Pro' has a starting price point of $3,499 - YouTube

The VR headset has a very minimal design like every other product of Apple where they have put the battery externally to look the size of an iPhone and get connected to the headset via a cable. They have been successful in making the VR/AR very lightweight by adding a tethered battery system as compared to other VR/AR headsets available in the market.

The company has presented the Apple Vision Pro as a spatial computer or a human computer where it has connected the digital media with the real world. By using physical gestures like eye tracking and speech anyone can interact with the system, it is based on the VisionOS which is a mixed reality operating system comprising IOS frameworks with a 3d user interface.

It has a curved front which has an external screen for eyesight and resembles Google Ski, this helps in seeing your eye when some other person is trying to approach you and going completely black out.

Apple Vision Pro Features:

There are some features that it has provided which is not available in other VR/AR headsets right now where users can control the headset through their eyes and hand tracking and at the same time with voice commands.

Display OLED
Processor Apple M2 Chip
Sensors 5
Microphones 6
Cameras 12

They have built two amplified drivers individually to place inside each audio pad so that it can give power to Personalized Spatial Audio and that culminates into a sound for the user respective of their head and geometry.

A user can switch between AR and VR just through the crown which is similar to the Apple Watch, they have provided a knob for the users to customize the fit of the headset and there is a button on the top of the headset which is provided to click photos. They have also added an Apple R1 chip to run in parallel with the M2 chip for heavy performance without any lag.

Apple Vision Pro Usage:

The company has given insights regarding the usage of Apple Vision Pro where a user gets access of running popular apps which include Camera, Books, Contacts, Maps, Messages, Photos, Saffari, Mail, FaceTime, Music, and Notes in the mixed reality which is a blend of VR and AR.

It has a total of more than 600 apps the Apple which includes Zoom, Todosit, Microsoft 365, Slack, and many more and it feels like the users are in the natural space when they are using the apps in the headsets which also feels like moving actual items around the users. This is insane to think about where we will get to experience another world where immersive video becomes the most selling point of the headset.

This gets edgy when the user watches a movie using the headset, they feel like in the physical environment and a giant screen is playing around their head and if you go around the beach with the headset on, you can get the vibe of the immersive spatial audio which will feel like heaven.

Apple Vision Pro Compatibility:

It is compatible with most of the popular third-party streaming services which we have listed below:

  • Amazon Prime Video
  • Mubi
  • Disney+
  • ESPN
  • Paramount+
  • IMAX
  • Peacock+

The headset provides an additional feature where the user can watch their shot videos of the iPhone and this has made a standout in the list of other AR/VR headsets just by adding this feature. It is very useful in the workspace where it becomes like a giant 4k external monitor that you have connected to your Mac at the same time.

Apple Vision Pro Price:

There is no doubt that if a product is from Apple, it would have been on the higher side in the price segment because the quality they provide is unmatchable compared to the competitors. Apple Vision Pro costs around 3,499 dollars for the base model with 256 GB storage which is a heft price considering for just a VR/AR headset.

All the competitors like Meta and HTC are providing their headsets generally around 1000 dollars and Apple chose 3x against them, it is a big move where they have initially between 60,000 and 80,000 units, and their pre-order units sold out in under 18 minutes which comprised of around 200,000 units, that shows the trust Apple has gained over the years.

Apple Vision Pro Inside the Box:

There is a curiosity going on that what will come inside the box of Apple Vision Pro, we are here to tell you that a user will find the battery pack, a cover, a USB C charging cable, a polishing cloth, a dual-loop band, a light seal cushion, and a USB C power adapter with of course the headset.

Apple Vision Pro: How to wear?

Some people who wear glasses ask questions regarding whether they can wear the headset with the glasses. The answer is ‘No’ and you have to just wear the headset without anything on your head, if you try to wear a headset with glasses intentionally and forcefully, it might break and harm you, so please do not try to indulge yourself in a situation like this.

For people who wear glasses, the company has provided an alternate option in the form of Zeiss Optical Inserts between the prices of 99 and 149 dollars so that a user doesn’t face many problems if their eyesight is weak.

To Sum Up:

Apple has just their AR/VR headset named, Apple Vision Pro at the price of 3,499 dollars and this is their new major product category after more than 9 years when they launched Apple Watch in 2015. They want to cater to the audience of virtual reality with a bang of a product.

The most important feature of the headset is that it comes with no external controller which means your hand will do all the work and that implies a greater connection with real feeling. That’s it for now.
