All About Charity Cricket Match between Lord’s Taverners and Governer’s XI

The cricket match between Governer’s XI and Lord’s Taverners is an important fixture on the Western Australian Cricket Association schedule where the teams compete for the President’s Trophy. 

The players for the game are selected from a wide cross-section of key Western Australian Cricket Association stakeholders, the cricket community, and also the general community at random. The match has representatives from male and female cricket programs as well along with Aboriginal, multicultural, and disability programs can also also be found in this match. The Governor is Patron in Cheif of the WACA or the Western Australian Cricket Association.

In the recent match, Lord’s Taverners XI has staked its claim on the President Cup for the second year in a row by six wickets. The annual fixture is proudly supported by the Western Australian Cricket Association along with Lord’s Taverners WA which is a charitable organization that assists members of the community struggling with resources access for playing sports and other such activities. They have been around since 1983 with a primary goal to provide financial support to young players who may not be able to play cricket or improve their skills otherwise. The funds collected through these matches help people living with a disability to garner support when representing their state in the National Inclusion Championships.

What happened in the match between Lord’s Taverners and Governer’s XI?

The all-rounder Perth scorchers Lisa Griffith skippered the Lord’s Taverners XI who chased down the opposite team’s total of 122 in the fifteen over before batting for the remainder of the 20 overs in a heartening display of the cricketer’s spirit. 

The WA Aboriginal Women’s star  Charlotte Toohey dominated the field smashing an unbeaten record of 47 from 27 balls in the game. While the skipper from the same team, Veronica Keen was best at bowling removing the WA hard-of-hearing stalwart Clint Fuller as well as Mikayla Drage of Team Connect to finish with a 2-13. 

The Governer’s XI team was captained by the WA Men’s batter Teague Wyllie who gave standout performances. These amazing performances for the team are owed to the former Perth Scorchers Culture Cup champion Umar Dilshad who also played Bentley Cricket Club and delivered 18 from just 6 deliveries. 

The winning team was congratulated by His Excellency himself, the Honourable Chris Dawson AC AMP, Governor of Western Australia, and Lord’s Taverners WA Chairman Murray Mcgill.

Through the generous amounts of donations received the Western Australian Cricket Association cricket foundation is able to provide opportunities presented for Aboriginal cricketers along with young women wanting to make a mark in cricket as well as the people with a disability who want to play. They also help in transforming the Western Australian Cricket Association ground into an inclusive space where everyone belongs.
