Headphones are our necessity today; often, we experience them not working correctly for one reason or another, which is why they need to be replaced. We rarely invest a good amount of money in earphones or headphones as they end up breaking and we have to get a new pair.

Are you one of those, too, whose headphones keep breaking? Well, the fact is that our headphones don’t actually break themselves. We break them.

So here we have lined up specific ways that indicate what makes our headphones useless and how we are using them wrong;

Not cleaning the headphones.

Earwax is a common cause and something most of us don’t even want to read about, but it is the reason why our headphones don’t last long. There are times when actually there is earwax on the surface or even jammed inside the earphones ear tips. This is most common in in-earphones. Moreover, not just earphones but earwax on wireless earbuds can cause real damage if they aren’t cleaned.

There are specific methods for cleaning these, such as most of the silicone ear tips can be removed easily, and they can be cleaned by water when they aren’t attached to the earpiece. Make sure you dry the ear tips prior to reconnecting them with the earpiece; a dry microfiber cloth would work best in this case.

Moreover, there are specific earwax cleaning tools. Still, one has to be really cautious when using them as they are manufactured by third-party companies and usually don’t work with some particular earphones model.

The crazy volume

This is quite rare; a sit indicates that earphones have lived long enough and have been fully utilised by the drivers. If the drivers start sounding damaged, like the sound is distorted on a specific type of music or the volume levels that don’t cause distortion, but the sound is still distorted, chances are the headphones got blasted due to very high volume.

The way we blow the speakers at times, similarly, we can also blow the drivers of our headphones. Therefore to avoid blasting the drivers into pieces, it’s better to reduce the volume on the stereo or mobile devices when taking your headphones off. With this, you can adjust the volume once the earphones are plugged back in, and you may end up listening to low volumes, preserving your hearing ability.

You avoid using a case.

Another protective measure to keep your headphones cable secure is using a pouch that comes with the pair. Most of these cases are circular and semi-hard that are designated to hold a looped cable. If you’ve lost the case or didn’t get one with your purchase, you can use a small pouch available at your disposal to keep your headphones fit and cable protected. A small case helps the earpieces and ear cups from crushing when you have accidentally thrown your bag on the floor after school or a long day at work.

Wadding the wires

The typical way by which our headphones are destroyed is when the cables are mistreated. The headphones drivers stay perfectly fine, but when specific models have hardwired cables, the cable damage can be really heartbreaking. This isn’t true for all the brands; for instance, Sennheiser has many models that have hardwired cables, but with some care, consultation, patience, and effort, they can be replaced.

However, the better option for these issues is to opt for headphones with an unpluggable or removable cable. There are plenty of Bluetooth models that offer removable cables, due to which they can be used in wired mode.

Spending less on headphones

This is the most common thing that we do, but we fail to realise that the cheaper the product is, the chances are it’s made with certain low-quality materials and is given less attention. This goes for all wireless, wired, and even cable-free headphones.

We all know electronic devices aren’t designed to last forever. Still, when the products and their components have a great quality value and are assembled with high-quality standards, they tend to provide us a good deal and result from our money spent.

A good quality pair of headphones may cost you more, but they indeed have a longer life than any cheaper pair. Another important fact is when you’ll spend more on them, you will definitely take good care of them even a thought of  minor damage would be enough to scare you.

These are some of the many reasons your headphones don’t last long and how you are misusing them.
