The Xbox Game Pass is ready to increase its retro classics library, with more than 100 additional titles for release in 2025 and 2026.
Launched on May 21, 2025, in collaboration with Antastrim Arcade, the Retro Classics Program started from the 1980s and the 1990s with more than 50 Activision games, including the Pitfall! and Commando.
This expansion will bring more than 120 titles, providing customers an indifferent gaming experience.
A Growing Library of Nostalgia
The Retro Classics collection, accessible on Xbox consoles, PC, and cloud-compatible devices like LG and Samsung smart TVs, currently features 65 games.
Titles like Kaboom!, MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat, and Space Quest II highlight Activision’s early catalog, with some PlayStation 1 and Atari 2600 classics included.
Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2023 has fueled this initiative, tapping into a vast retro archive.
Enhanced Features for Modern Gamers
Xbox Game Pass subscribers can enjoy these retro games, such as modern enrichment, such as save states, leaderboards, and new achievements.
Community challenges and tournaments combine competitive nature, both appeal to experienced players and new people.
However, the games are cloud-streamed, which may introduce latency, a drawback noted by Mashable for titles designed for local play.
A Milestone in Game Preservation
The Retro Classics program has already attracted over one million active players in just 27 days, according to Xbox’s July 1, 2025, announcement.
Antstream Arcade’s technology ensures seamless access across devices, supporting Microsoft’s commitment to game preservation and backward compatibility.
While specific new titles remain undisclosed, fans anticipate more Activision and Blizzard classics, potentially including Disney collaborations like The Lion King.
What’s Next for Retro Classics?
No accurate release dates have been confirmed for the new titles, but according to IGN, additions are expected monthly through 2026.
In addition to retro revamps such as Legend of Mana, Trials of Mana, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 coming to Xbox Game Pass in July, the service continues to mix nostalgia and new gaming.
