Can a web design really boost your conversion rate? The goal of every business is to boost their website’s conversion rate and to do this they usually rely on SEO, social media, and so on. And while all these things do matter, your web design is where you should start if you want to maximize conversion rate.

Web design plays an important role. If you aim to make your business credible – start from the web design. It’s highly important to make your website look professional.

It’s also important to follow certain web design rules or principles that can help you make a website that people would want to visit and read.

If you aim to boost your conversion rate, here are a couple of web design principles that can help you out.

1.      The K.I.S.S. principle

This is probably one of the most famous principles due to its name which stands for “Keep It Simple, Stupid”. It’s also the most important principle in web design.

Ideally, the best type of website is the simple one that doesn’t have a ton of information and many details. The simplicity is also more aesthetically pleasing than having everything crammed into one page, especially into the homepage.

So, a way to boost conversion rate is by creating a simple web design that is clutter-free and without any distractions.

2.      Give them less choice

How many times have you been indecisive due to the number of choices you were presented with? The same goes for websites – if you see a website that has a ton of calls to action, the chances are you will not choose at all.

So, instead of placing all calls to action on one page, you should give your visitors less choice. And that’s exactly how this principle says, give your viewers less choice but make sure the important one is included.

3.      Keep the text short and simple

By now you know that the key is to keep things simple. That’s why long texts have nothing to do with a website. To keep things simple and clutter-free and more visually appealing the best is to keep the text as short as possible.

Use fewer words but without losing the main message and the emotion in it. Write short paragraphs with subheads and bullets. Visitors will never read long, unbroken texts.

The goal is to keep the paragraphs to three sentences and if you can keep one-line sentences since they are the most effective. They are quick to read and perfectly convey what your website is about.

4.      Use colors that reflect your ideas and values

Don’t just disregard colors because they too play a big role in influencing viewer’s actions and making your business memorable.

Colors do make your website more appealing, but they also carry some emotions. They can influence people to take action, convey the mood of your website, and influence people to see your brand in a certain way.

That’s why it’s very important that you choose colors that reflect your ideas and values, and that convey your marketing message correctly. Using wrong colors can confuse your brand message and negatively affect conversion rates.

The process of choosing the right colors for your website is similar to designing your logo, choose colors such as blue, red, green cause each of these colors carries some sort of meaning. Also, never overuse the colors – find a balance.

5.      Increase Website load speed

The first thing that can boost your conversion rates is the loading speed of your website. If the website doesn’t load within two to five seconds, your conversion rate suffers, and this whole story about wed design is pointless.

Viewers simply don’t have the patience to wait for your website to load and they won’t wait. So, how do you make your website load faster? By optimizing the media such as videos, images, GIFs, and other visual elements. It’s their size that affects the website speed, so the key is to use no more than what you need. And before uploading the media, make sure it’s compressed!

6.      Clear visual hierarchy

You need a good website layout to boost your conversion rate. A good website design can communicate a lot to your visitors if there’s a clear visual hierarchy.

Visual hierarchy is basically the principle of arranging graphic elements to show their order of importance. So, simply put, with visual hierarchy you’re telling your visitors what to focus on and in what order.

Visitors usually read the website content in a Z or F pattern. Z pattern means that they scan the page from top left to right then go down to the bottom left then right. So you can use this pattern to organize the elements such as the navigation bar, company logo, your CTA on the website.

F pattern is the other way visitors read websites. They start from the top left part then go to the right, then they look downwards. You can also capitalize on this by aligning the important information left.

And there you have it, a couple of main web design principles. Web design is not only used to make a website look visually appealing and nothing else. Web design can help you drive your sales and conversions if done right.

So, now that you know this, we hope your conversion rates skyrocket!
