There are lots of skills that you can learn and level up in Old School RuneScape. Most are often mastered to farm tons of OSRS gold in just an hour. Fishing is one of those skills. It’s easy to think that Fishing is the most boring out of the bunch of skills in OSRS but it’s actually the most relaxing and profitable skill that you can get into especially if you’re just starting out.

If you’re looking to run a business to sell OSRS gold for actual cash and buy OSRS gold at the same time, then Fishing is the perfect skill to be educated on. The maximum level to attain is 99 Fishing, and like other skills, it won’t just happen in a snap. You need to be able to pour in the hours if you want to reach the maximum level. Without further ado, here are the ins and outs of fishing in Old School RuneScape.

Quests That You Can Take On

If you’re not worried about the amount of OSRS gold that you have in your pocket and just want to get the maximum level in Fishing, then there’s a bunch of quests that you can sink your teeth into. Note that some of these quests can take a while to accomplish as they can sometimes take up an entire day; it really just depends on the level of your other skills.

  • The Knight’s Sword

The Knight’s Sword is a medium difficulty type of quest that offers the most Fishing experience points. All you need to do this quest is have at least 10 Mining, a redberry pie, a blurite ore, 2 iron bars, and a pickaxe of any kind. The story is simple: the squire of Sir Vyvin stupidly lost the ceremonial sword and it’s your job to find a replacement for it without Sir Vyvin actually finding out. To start this quest, simply head on over to the White Knight’s Castle located in Falador. If you manage to finish this slightly lengthy quest, then you’ll be rewarded with 12, 725 Fishing XP.

  • Swan Song

If you want to help an old man take on his final adventure before finally retiring, then the Swan Song fits the bill perfectly. This quest is exclusive to members only, meaning if you’re playing the free-to-play mode of OSRS, you won’t have access to it. While the Swan Song isn’t that long, there are tons of requirements before you get to accept the quest. Should you manage to complete this quest, you will be granted a whopping 10,000 Fishing XP for your troubles!

Critters That You Can Catch for Gold

While leveling up your skill is fun and all, don’t forget your ultimate goal: to make moolah. Fortunately for you, Fishing is a great way to farm OSRS gold while being AFK, it’s just a matter of knowing what kinds of critter that you catch. There are tons of fish in the sea that offer varying price points, but what are the best ones to hook depending on your level? Fret not, because we’ve got you covered.

Here’s what you need to catch according to your Fishing level:

  • Dark Crabs – Level 85 & Above

Dark Crabs offer the most amount of pay. The only “catch”, however, is that these crustaceans can only be found in the Wilderness—a hotspot for PK or player killings. If you get killed, you’ll drop all the fish and dark crabs that you’ve caught. If you love the rush of getting into something dangerous while filling your pockets with around 300,000 gold per hour, then catching dark crabs is the way to go. They’re also great for gaining XP, so you can hit two birds with one stone if you’re still looking to level up your Fishing.

  • Monkfish – Level 62 & Above

The best fish to catch if you want to go to the AFK route is without a doubt the Monkfish. Generating up to 100,000 gold per hour, the Monkfish is a great fish to farm if you’re planning on doing something else besides playing OSRS. If you’re also well-versed in the art of Cooking, then you can also cook the Monkfish that you’ve managed to catch and it’ll bump up the price when it’s time to sell them.

  • Lobsters – Level 40 & Above

If your level isn’t as high as you’d like it to be but you still want to earn a reasonable amount of gold, then catching Lobsters is your best bet. Lobsters are available to both free-to-play players and members, making it perfect for all types of people regardless of whether or not they’re paying a subscription fee. You can get up to 65,000 gold per hour by simply catching lobsters, which in itself is pretty good especially for free-to-players.

That’s basically all you need to know about the ins and outs of Fishing. Earning OSRS gold can be tough, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing. Hopefully, you’ve learned a thing or two about what quests to take to gain the most amount of XP and what fishes can earn you the most money. Most people sell OSRS gold with the in-game money earned through Fishing and you can do the same thing.
