Comstock then donated six acres of land and the following session of the Legislature appropriated $60,000 for the development of Essential Corridor, which included lecture rooms, administrative places of work and a library. Courses supplied: science, music, historical past, algebra, Latin, English and literature. Bills have been $5,000; President Lord’s wage was $2,500; college salaries have been $800. Tuition was free to all college students promising to show two years in Minnesota. On the time, the campus towered on the outskirts of the town. Charles Loring, later Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court docket, rode his pony 5 miles every day to his lessons.
