Washing machines that are white frequently blend very nicely with their surroundings. White appliances, on the other hand, might occasionally harm the entire effect if you are looking for a specific colour scheme. While buying a washing machine in the colour you desire is an option, manufacturers aren’t always the best at offering machines in colours other than white, black, grey, and metallic finishes. Models in various colours are occasionally available, although they may not be the one you seek. So, how can you get the correct colour for your dream washing machine? It is simple: either hire a professional to paint it or do it yourself. While the first choice is more expensive, painting your washing machine at home is very achievable and far less expensive.

If you’re re-purposing an old washing machine, it’s likely to have some scratches and possibly rust. To deal with this, you’ll need to do some more planning before getting started. Scrape away any paint flakes and paint bubbles from around the rust using a scraper. To fill up the gaps, you’ll need some automobile body filler. You may accomplish this with a putty knife, which allows you to simply scrape away any extra. Follow the remainder of the processes, but make sure to apply a rust-inhibiting primer to the problem areas before spray painting. After you’ve completed all of this, follow the cleaning steps above and begin painting.

First steps to take

Make sure the machine’s drum is empty before unplugging it. Ideally, leave it for a few hours to guarantee that the device is free of any electrical charge. If you have the space, relocate the unit to a location where you have more area to work with, such as outside, in a spare room, or even in a garage. If not, work with any available open area to ensure that the machine is ventilated and that paint does not spray into the walls. Make sure there’s a towel underneath the machine to catch any paint droplets.

Preparing to paint

Before you begin, make sure the machine’s exterior is free of debris. Clean it with a solution of hot water and detergent. Using a dampened towel, wipe it down. After allowing this to air dry, sand all of the surfaces to be painted using sandpaper. After that, sand it again with more abrasive sandpaper. The factory colours will be dimmed as a result of this technique, allowing you to paint over it without having to remove it first.

Time to Paint

You’ll need some appliance spray paint in your favourite colour for this. Before you begin, put on a paint mask to protect yourself from the mist or vapour. Use the spray paint to produce around 14-inch strokes on the appliance in a steady, left-to-right manner with some overlap between each stroke. Do this until everything you wish to be covered is coated, then apply a second layer 30 minutes to an hour later if required.
