History of Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day’s origination can be traced back to the story of Saint Valentine who is remembered for his acts of selflessness where he would help couples. It is said that St. Valentine was sentenced to imprisonment and later beheaded by Emperor Claudius II for the solemnization of secret marriages of couples. On the day of his execution, St. Valentine sent a note to the blind daughter of the jailor, Julia, which was signed as Your Valentine. Since then Valentine’s Day has started being celebrated every year on the 14th of February. This day is also associated with Lupercalia which is an ancient Roman festival for fertility along with the Roman God of Love and Desire, Cupid.
