Real Madrid is all set to take a one-goal advantage into the second leg of the 16-tie round after RB Leipzig’s early goal was disallowed

Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz scored an amazing goal after a solo run this Tuesday as they won against RB Leipzig by 1-0 to have a clear advantage into their Champions League round of sixteen-second leg next month.

The twenty-four-year-old struck against the run of play in the forty-eight minute of the match which led to goalkeeper Andriy Lunin to then come to the rescue with a string of saves to protect the lead. Real Madrid has now made it to seven straight wins in the competition this season.

Real Madrid’s Comment

The coach Carlo Ancelotti said, that it was a difficult journey to get through. The first half of the game as well as the second half were difficult. Lunin played great arguably maybe the best game as well. There were dangers in transitions and they had a chance to score more but they could have also tied so it is a small advantage that they won.

What Happened in the game?

In a lively start, the home side thought they had the game in their court when striker Benjamin Sesko headed in after three minutes. However, his efforts were disallowed after a VAR review. The team RB Leipzig got another chance before Real Madrid gradually brought some balance back to the game. They came close themselves through Rodrygo who made his 200th appearance for the club. RB Leipzig was more aggressive after the half time but the home crowd was silenced when Real Madrid’s were struck on the break.

Brahim Diaz picked up the ball from near the sidelines and after shaking off three players he was finally able to cut in towards the box which allowed him to curl a superb shot past the other team’s goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi. The hosts there almost drew a level two minutes later but Lunin was able to stop a shot by Dani Olmo before blocking the rebound efforts of Sesko. Real Madrid waited to break with RB Leipzig taking more risks in their search for an equaliser. They found an opening and were almost able to score again when Vinicius Junior sent the ball onto the post in the seventy-second. Lunin was kept busy for the second half which did well to deny Sesko and Olmo again. Substitute Amadou Haidara’s efforts were also managed to be kept in check late in the game.

RB Leipzig’s Comment

RB Leipzig Gulasci said it was disappointing to lose because they played well and it was a solo effort that decided the fate of the game.

Real Madrid was missing several players due to injury including the in-form attacking midfielder Bellingham along with keeper Thibaut Courtois. The return leg is set on the 6th of March 2024 in Spain where the teams are ready to perform well.
