It’s graduation season for some, and for the rest of college students, it’s time to move out for the summer. College students in New York and New Jersey are trying to figure out what’s next for the summer. If you live nearby, moving out shouldn’t be difficult as you may have somewhere nearby to use for storage. For those students coming from far or out of state, it’s important to have a plan for your belongings until the next semester. Are you going to bring them home with you or do you prefer to put them in a storage unit near New York?

For all the freshmen out here, this is the first of many times you’ll leave your dorm to go home for summer break. Now is the perfect time to tackle the move-out process. Keep reading to find out how the moving out process should go for the semester.

Read your move out procedure

Moving out is a process that you want to familiarize yourself with in advance. Each college dorm will have its own rules for moving out. Chances are your Resident Advisor might have spoken with everyone or shared important things to know when it comes to moving out of your New York or New Jersey dorm.

It’s important that you leave your dorm in the condition you found it in. Make sure you clear out your fridge and bathroom, so nothing is left behind. You can’t go wrong if you leave things in good condition. Make sure, whenever the final inspection is, you have everything in its place to avoid paying any penalties.

Create your packing list

The end of the semester is filled with final exams and making memories with friends before the summer begins. Making time to create a packing list will be helpful in a smooth transition and move-out process. A list will help you stay organized and on track even as things get busy towards the end of the school year.

If you have a roommate, pay close attention to which items belong to whom so you don’t end up taking something that doesn’t belong to you. Depending on the relationship you have with your roommate, maybe you can possibly split a storage unit. Your roommate may be looking for a storage facility near Lower Manhattan or Midtown Manhattan to use over the Summer. Not only would it be a great way for the two of you to save money, but it’s also convenient to split a storage unit with someone you already know.

Set aside what you can put in storage

As you’re packing, start to make piles of what will come with you for the summer and what you don’t need. You should call the list of the important stuff your ‘Essentials List’ with the things you simply can’t live without. Anything that you don’t plan on using can easily go to your storage unit near your Manhattan college campus. Even if you only have a few items, a small 5’ x 5’ storage unit can be.

Divide and conquer your summer move by using a storage unit for some of your needs. College students who attend school in New York or New Jersey know that StorageBlue is a great location to find cheap storage units. They rely on us to provide great care for their items as they’re away for the summer.
